The Story Behind the App
I'm Asher, a 17-year-old developer and the founder of CardVault AI. Like a lot of good ideas, this one started with a problem I actually had.
When my little brother and I spent hours organizing our Pokémon cards, sorting by type and rarity, manually placing them in binders, I thought there must be a better way to do this. I've always worked on creating digital tools to help me with my life, and though there were similar apps out there, I thought why not create my own from scratch.
So I built an app where you could snap a photo of any trading card and an AI model would identify it, extract the details, and add it to a searchable database. It worked across Pokémon, baseball, football, basketball, soccer. My brother loved it. For about a week.
Then it started freezing. With thirty cards, searches were instant. At three hundred cards, the app crawled. I spent days tracking down the problem: every single search rebuilt the entire card index. I recognized this as a fundamental scaling issue. I rewrote the indexing logic to only update when cards were actually added or removed. The app went from unusable to smooth.
That experience taught me something important: building something that works is one thing, but building something that works well as it scales is a completely different challenge. It's the kind of problem-solving I love, finding the bottleneck, understanding why it exists, and engineering a solution that makes the whole system better.
Today, CardVault AI helps collectors organize their cards with AI-powered scanning and smart organization. It's not just about digitizing a collection, it's about making the entire process faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
